Meet Lisa
Welcome! I am a wife, mom, pharmacist and an IBCLC. I have practised as a pharmacist since 2012. I chose the field of pharmacy because of my strong desire to help others achieve better health outcomes. I have always chosen to work at small, independent pharmacies that emphasize a high quality of personalized care as I love building meaningful relationships with people. Over the years, I learned it is imperative to take a holistic approach to healthcare in order to actually prevent disease. This motivated me to obtain a strong knowledge base in nutrition, supplements and other lifestyle measures to enhance health.
I had my daughter in 2015 and began the journey of breastfeeding her. We had our ups and downs but, with a little bit of help, and a lot of determination, I was grateful to be able to meet my breastfeeding goals with her. At the time, I was not aware that IBCLC’s existed, but I surely would have benefitted from the knowledge, expertise and one-on-one care that is provided by one! It was my own breastfeeding experience that led me to pursue my certification so that I could help other women.
While undergoing the training required, I could not believe how much I still didn’t know about breastfeeding, despite my own experience with it. I had already fallen in love with the bond that breastfeeding creates between mom and baby but to look at it from my “healthcare” lens was incredible! The health benefits to both mom and baby are truly amazing. I realized that this role aligns perfectly with my desire to help people prevent disease and achieve the best health outcomes possible. After over 500 hours of learning and hands-on internship work at a highly respected clinic, I received my IBCLC certification in July 2023.
My clinic training made me very aware of the gaps in lactation education and support within the medical community. I found that women are too often either given no preparation to breastfeed or are bombarded with conflicting and confusing information that sets them up for unnecessary challenges. While breastfeeding is supposed to be "natural", we unfortunately don't live in a perfect world. A lot of the pressures of today's society along with the increase in interventions used during pregnancy and birth can interrupt the normal processes that lead to breastfeeding with ease. While there are many breastfeeding challenges that do occur because of this, I am so encouraged to know that there is almost no problem an IBCLC can’t help solve. I cannot wait to help you not just achieve your breastfeeding goals, but also truly enjoy the journey.
